Curves With Conviction

Some lounge chairs make a statement through scale. This one does it through silhouette. Inspired by the dramatic forms that defined late-20th-century Italian interiors, the design wraps a generous seat inside a sculptural shell and lifts it onto a pedestal that almost disappears beneath it.

Baxter feels equal parts lounge chair and object — soft where you touch it, architectural where you see it.

• Fully upholstered silhouette with a sculpted wraparound back
• Low, relaxed proportions designed for lingering
• Swivel pedestal base with a grounded footprint
• Works equally well as a reading chair or accent piece

Materials

Molded Structural Shell
Formed from reinforced fiberglass or ABS to achieve the chair’s continuous sculptural shape without unnecessary bulk. The shell allows the generous proportions to remain visually light.

Matte Upholstery
Wrapped in a softly brushed matte fabric that gives the surface depth and movement without shine. The finish highlights the chair’s curved geometry and keeps the look understated.

Layered Foam Cushioning
Multi-density foam creates structure beneath the silhouette while maintaining a softer sit. Supportive through the back, fuller through the seat.

Powder-Coated Iron Base
A low-profile iron pedestal anchors the form while keeping attention on the seat above. Finished in matte black for visual contrast.

Design

The original design became recognizable for taking a familiar lounge typology and compressing it into one uninterrupted gesture — shell, cushion, and structure reading almost as one continuous form.

• Winged sides create privacy without feeling enclosed
• Continuous upholstery softens the sculptural geometry
• Tulip-style pedestal removes visual clutter below
• Deep seat encourages multiple sitting positions
• Balanced proportions make the chair feel substantial but not oversized

The Wrapped Silhouette

The defining move: taking the classic wing chair and simplifying it into one uninterrupted upholstered volume.

Soft Modernism

Unlike sharper modernist seating, this shape trades edges for radius — creating presence through softness rather than ornament.

The Floating Base

The pedestal visually compresses the footprint so the seat appears to hover instead of sit heavily in the room.

A 1970s Italian Revival

Draws from the era’s fascination with sculptural seating — furniture designed to feel cinematic from every angle.
