Leather, Wood, and Gravity

Some chairs are upholstered. This one is suspended.

Originally designed in 1958 by Børge Mogensen, the Spanish Chair remains one of the defining pieces of Danish modernism. Thick saddle leather is stretched across a solid wood frame, creating a seat that adapts to the sitter over time while showcasing the honest construction that made Scandinavian furniture famous.

• Inspired by Børge Mogensen's 1958 design
• Solid ash wood frame
• Genuine leather seat and backrest
• Wide armrests for books, drinks, or devices
• Develops character with age and use

Materials

Solid Ash Wood
The frame is crafted from solid ash wood, selected for its strength, pronounced grain, and clean appearance. Thick architectural members emphasize the chair's structural honesty while providing exceptional stability.

Genuine Leather
The seat and backrest are formed from substantial pieces of genuine leather. Rather than relying on foam or upholstery, the leather itself provides support, gradually softening and developing a rich patina through use.

Leather Strap Suspension
Adjustable leather straps beneath the seat create tension and flexibility while allowing the leather to respond naturally to weight and movement. The exposed construction is both functional and visually distinctive.

Design

Few lounge chairs express their construction as clearly as this one.

• Inspired by traditional Spanish saddle-making techniques and reinterpreted through Danish modernism.
• Thick leather wraps around the frame rather than being concealed beneath upholstery.
• Oversized armrests create usable surfaces for books, drinks, or everyday essentials.
• Visible leather straps become part of the visual language rather than something hidden from view.
• The low, relaxed profile encourages long periods of comfortable sitting.
