Each of our Olivewood spoons starts with a century old olive tree. The family that hand carved each spoon has lived near these trees for generations –– and sustainably uses their wood to carve luxury bowls, spoons, and other household treasures.
Because each spoon is hand carved from its own segment of wood, each is undeniably unique. What stays the same is the craftsmanship of their skill. Each spoon is sanded and shaped to have an ultra smooth finish, tapered handle for a natural grip, perfectly round head, and stunning wood grain.
Then –– it’s polished with olive oil and sealed with natural beeswax. So it lasts a lifetime.
Tunisian Olive Wood From 100-year Old Trees
Our spoons are made from 100-year old olive trees that grow in the town of Sfax, Tunisa. This wood is legendary for its beauty and longevity. The natural grain forms a kaleidoscopic pattern of color and patterns. The age and character of the wood make it incredibly hard and amazingly durable.
Carved, Shaped & Sanded by Hand
Our spoons are made by a family. They start with a single, solid block of olive wood. They carve the block by hand until it reaches the perfect silhouette. Then, they start sanding and shaping.
They stop when the spoon develops its iconic seamless and smooth hand feel. Finally, they polish with olive oil to bring out the color and seal with natural beeswax to make it waterproof.
Stable, Durable, Sustainable
We tested 19 salad spoons for a year. Most were made to last months. The wood chipped and cracked.
The base becomes misshapen and the spoon becomes faded. Ours was made to last a lifetime— the wood is sourced sustainably from olive trees that no longer bear fruit. Naturally, hard olivewood lasts decades and always holds its shape. The polish stays on and the beeswax keeps it all together.
No Two Are Alike
The family business behind our spoons has handmade over 30,000 spoons in the last decade. No two have ever been the exact same. That's what we love about olivewood — it has character.
Every grain is unique, every shape singular and every spoon stunning and unlike any other.
